Casa Rio is an international home for creative exchange between artists, academics, activists and audiences in Rio de Janeiro, run by our sister organisation – PPPdoBrasil
The early 20th century house that formerly served as Rio’s Theatre Museum now hosts artists from across the world, acting as an intercultural meeting place and residency centre in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. Curated by our sister organisation People’s Palace Projects do Brasil on behalf of the State Government, Casa Rio offers unique opportunities to engage with both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.
Casa Rio is also a gallery and performance space that provides co-working facilities for Brazilian artists and cultural professionals. The house hosts regular workshops, lectures, readings and screenings. It is a place for new communities to emerge and for new collaborations to take root.
PPPdoBrasil is grateful for the ongoing partnership of FUNARJ and Rio de Janeiro State Culture Secretariat. People’s Palace Projects (UK) is grateful for financial support from Queen Mary University of London in the initial equipping and furnishing of the residency space, which has supported three years of residencies by QMUL students funded by Santander Universities and produced by PPP, and a number of our international collaborative research projects.
